Heart of Worship (Michael W. Smith)

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
When the music fades
All is stripped away
And I simply come
Longing just to bring
Something that’s of worth
That will bless Your heart

I’ll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You’re looking into my heart

[Chorus]
I’m coming back to the heart of worship
And it’s all about You,
It’s all about You, Jesus
I’m sorry, Lord, for the thing I’ve made it
When it’s all about You,
It’s all about You, Jesus

[Verse 2]
King of endless worth
No one could express
How much You deserve
Though I’m weak and poor
All I have is Yours
Every single breath
I’ll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You’re looking into my heart

[Vamp]
It’s all about You
It’s all about You
It’s all about You, Jesus

Our Thoughts

What really is worship? Is it singing a bunch of slow songs that make us emotional? Is it reciting cliches that profess love to/for God? I think not! Worship involves the revelation of who God is and a response of adoration and submission to Him. It involves the offering up of our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to Him (Romans 12:1) which becomes manifest in our everyday lives as seen in the very next verse (vs.2). Worship is intimacy with God and not lip service or eye service. It comes from the heart and manifests on the outside in the way we live our lives everyday, how we treat others, the words of our lips, the choices we make in our homes, at our jobs, in the traffic…. Worship comes from a heart that truly, desperately wants to please God knowing that we were created for His pleasure (Revelations 4:11, KJV) and belong to Him completely.

Looked at in the light of the above, it becomes more obvious that so many are so far away from what worship really is and may be sincere, but sincerely wrong. It’s ALL about JESUS – HIS will, HIS way, HIS lordship, HIS leading…..everything. The reason we live is to worship – to do His will here on Earth.

This song calls the heart back to true worship that is pleasing and acceptable to God who is the object of our worship.
